She was the former Helena Olivia Adeane (8 October
1902 - 1985), fifth and youngest daughter of Charles
Robert Whorwood Adeane (Adeane LG) (1863-1943). She
married the then Viscount Folkestone, later 7th Earl
of Radnor (1895-1968) on 11 October 1922 (aged 20),
and had six children, including two sons, with him.
Her first son was born 1928.  In 1930, her
father-in-law died, and she became Countess of Radnor
(her husband becoming 7th Earl of Radnor, etc).  The
Radnors divorced in 1942.  He married 2ndly 9 October
1943 (Anne) Isobel Graham Sowerby nee Oakley, daughter
of Lt.-Col. Richard Oakley, and widow of Richard
Thomas Reynolds Sowerby. (She has since died in 1998).
They had further issue, one son.  Helena, Countess of
Radnor married 2ndly
25 January 1943 Brigadier Montacute William Worrall
Selby-Lowndes (1896-1972), eldest son of Henry William
Selby-Lowndes, of Eltham, Kent, by his wife Blanche
Frederica, daughter of Alfred Milne.  Her second
husband was descended from George [Plantagenet], Duke
of Clarence. There was no issue of the 2nd marriage,
as far as I know.

Helena Selby-Lowndes died in 1985, no exact date
available immediately. Burke's or Debrett's might have
more, as she is the mother of the present 8th Earl of
Radnor.

Her children were
1. Lady Jane Pleydell-Bouverie+ b. 14 Sep 1923, d. 21
Jul 2006; whom md 1945 Richard Anthony Bethell, son of
Captain William Adrian Vincent Bethell and Cicely

died 10 August 2006 aged only 60).
2. Lady Belinda Pleydell-Bouverie (15 Jan 1925 - 29
July 1961); she married 13 December 1952 Sir William
Stratford Dugdale, 2nd Bt., son of Sir William Francis
Stratford Dugdale, 1st Bt. and Margaret Gilmour. They
had issue, including a son (William) Matthew. Sir
William has remarried, and has further issue.
3. Jacob Pleydell-Bouverie, 8th Earl of Radnor+ b. 10
Nov 1927; he married firstly 8 July 1953 (div 1962),
as Viscount Folkestone Anne Garden Farquaharson
Seth-Smith, daughter of Donald Farquaharson
Seth-Smith, by whom he has two sons, the present
Viscount Folkestone (b. 1955) [who married late in
life in 1996, but has five children, including three
sons] and the Hon. (Peter) John Pleydell-Bouverie (b.
1958) who is High Sheriff for Wiltshire 2007-2008.
John married Jane Gilmour, granddaughter of the Duke
of Buccleuch, and has four children (two sons and two
daughters).  Folkestone md 2ndly 1962 (div 1985)

whom he has issue 4 daughters. Their third daughter
(b. 1966) is named for his late sister Belinda, and
lost her newly married husband Anthony Berkeley Paget
(of ANGLESEY M) recently. (Incidentally, there are
lots of twins among the descendants of the 7th Earl of
Radnor and Helena Adeane). Folkestone became 8th Earl
of Radnor in 1968. In 1986 he married 3rdly Mary
Jillean Gwenellan Eddy, daughter of William Edward
Montague Eddy. They have no issue.
4. Hon. Reuben Pleydell-Bouverie+ b. 30 Dec 1930; he

Tennant (son of Harold Tennant, and grandson of Sir
Charles Tennant, 1st Bt -see GLENCONNER B) and his
former wife Hon. Antonia Mary Roby Benson the daughter
of Godfrey Rathbone Benson, 1st Baron Charnwood
(extinct) and since 1939 wife of Cyril Radcliffe,
later 1st Viscount Radcliffe (of Partition of India
fame), another extinct title. They have issue 1 son
and 1 daughter.

Lady B hit by tragedy in Spain
21:55pm 3rd July 2007 Comments Comments

Richard Kay
She was brought up in one of the grandest houses in
England, the baroque 16th-century Longford Castle in
Wiltshire where her father, the Earl of Radnor, a
close chum of the Prince of Wales, has one of the
country's finest private art collections.

But Lady Belinda Pleydell-Bouverie, 40, eschewed all
her family grandeur - her eccentric father is noted
for his knowledge of Victorian ladies' garments - and
preferred the simple white-washed labourer's cottage
in Spain where, after a late marriage, she settled
with her husband, Old Harrovian estate manager
Berkeley Paget.

Now, just 11 months after their wedding - the union
delighted Lord Radnor because none of his other three
daughters has married - tragedy has struck.

For Berkeley, 61, has been found dead at the couple's
small Andalusian farmhouse, apparently after taking
his own life. "They were happy as sixpence," says a
close friend. "But Berkeley was a manic-depressive and
despite their happiness he succumbed to his illness
and gassed himself.

"It is a terrible loss because he was popular and
hugely loved." Garden designer Belinda, whose clients
have included Lisbet Rausing, the daughter of Tetra
Pak billionaire Hans Rausing, is said to be
inconsolable.

Paget, who has three children by two previous wives,
once ran an interior design shop in Chelsea with his
second wife, Gabrielle. But after moving to Spain, he
began looking after houses and gardens belonging to
second-home owners.

One of his clients is former Tory Cabinet minister
Lord Parkinson, who has a home on the upmarket Almunia
estate, near where Belinda and Berkeley lived at
Gaucin.

"The couple had a register office wedding in Richmond
followed by a huge party for 550 guests at Longford,"
says one of their guests. "Prince Charles, who is a
close family friend, couldn't make the party but he
visited the castle - he is an admirer of Longford's
celebrated Norman garden - a few days before, when he
met the couple and congratulated them."

Paget's funeral is due to be held today in Estepona,
southern Spain.
